There are easier ways to spend a Bank Holiday Monday.
But very few of them involve flying through the air at alarming speed for a very good cause.
Join us on Monday 25 May for a sponsored Phoenix Zip Challenge at Zip World Tower Colliery, Aberdare — a former mining site turned adventure destination, with big skies, dramatic views, and just enough danger to make the picnic afterwards feel especially well earned.
We’ll leave Skanda Vale Ashram at 9.00am, or you can meet us there at 11.00am. The zip challenge begins promptly at 11.30am, and afterwards we’ll stay for a picnic together.
What is Phoenix?
Phoenix is Zip World Tower’s headline zip-line experience: the world’s fastest seated zip line, with riders reaching speeds of up to 70mph. It runs on four parallel lines across two zip zones, so you won’t be disappearing nobly into the distance on your own — there’s every chance someone will be hurtling beside you, looking just as composed as you are. Or not.
The plan:
You can travel with us from Skanda Vale Ashram in the morning, either in our minibus or by following in your own car, or you can meet us there at the venue itself. We’ll arrive in time to check in, have the safety briefing, and take on the big zip challenge. Afterwards, we’ll settle down together for a picnic and a bit of quiet disbelief.
Date: Monday 25 May
Leave Skanda Vale: 9.00am — or meet there: 11.00am
Challenge begins: 11.30am prompt
Location: Zip World Tower Colliery, Aberdare, CF44 9UF
Places: There are 15 places available
Zip World recommends arriving 30 minutes before your activity, so we’ll want everyone there and checked in in good time.
Afterwards
There will be a rather good picnic after the challenge — because after voluntarily launching yourself into the void, you deserve more than a pat on the back.
Fundraising
We ask each participant to raise a minimum of £150 in sponsorship.
Once you’ve booked your place, you can set up your JustGiving page through our campaign page by clicking the Start Fundraising button.
Every pound raised helps Skanda Vale Hospice continue offering unhurried, compassionate care to people and families living with life-limiting illness.
